Leopard Safaris by KK Collection experience: art in the jungle (for kids)

Back Back

Conducted by Leopard Safaris by KK Collection in their campsites in Wilpattu and Yala, this private art class is a great way to keep kids occupied and entertained while parents relax or when they want to venture out into the wild, leaving the kids behind.

Experience Overview

Two art programs are on offer for children between the ages of 3-6 years and 7-12 years. The first class is a one hour art class between the game drives and aimed at the 3-6 year olds. This class would include lessons on how to make stick/coconut rafts, water color butterflies, rock painting, thumb print pictures, leaf prints (on linen bags/t-shirts) and how to identify tree rubbings. The second class is a three hour art class instead of a game drive (parents can leave their kids at the camp). This class is aimed at the 7-12 year olds and covers seed art, wire drawings, rock painting, leaf prints (on linen bags/t-shirts and jewelry making of seeds.

About the Host

Your host is an artist who originally hails from Germany. Ever since she came to Sri Lanka and met her partner, the famous ‘leopard man’ of Sri Lanka, she has been able to combine two of her greatest interests, painting and nature, into one big passion. Your host makes mainly charcoal drawings and acrylic paintings of the wild animals or of encounters with wild animals that she had in the jungle. Now your host shares her passion and transmits it to children visiting Leopard Safaris by KK Collection Yala and Wilpattu camps.

Managing Expectations

It is important to remember that, whilst they are experts in their field, the people who run or host our experiences are not necessarily used to working in the tourism industry and may not offer the level of service you would find at a five-star hotel. For example, instead of a formal lecture, you may get a relaxed conversation where open discussion is encouraged. All of our hosts are, however, extremely engaging, knowledgeable and passionate about educating visitors about their chosen subject and we have worked with them to ensure that they deliver worthwhile, fulfilling experiences. We welcome feedback, so please let us know what you thought and if you think any improvements could be made to the experiences we offer.
