Private Yoga Classes

Back Back

The south coast of Sri Lanka is the ideal place to take a yoga class in Sri Lanka. The area boasts many different yoga styles taught by a wide range of experienced teachers. Whether you are a beginner or a more advanced practitioner, this one-on-one class with Sri Lanka’s most well-established yoga teacher is a great way to get deeper into your yoga class both physically and spiritually. It is also a great way for anyone with injuries, specific goals or concerns to learn how to adapt postures to suit you with the full attention and guidance of your instructor.

Experience Overview

This private hour and a half session with a highly experienced yoga instructor takes place at one of three locations: the luxurious tree-top setting of Tri Lanka’s yoga studio, the yoga teacher’s own house, or in the privacy of your own villa. At the teacher’s home there is a large swimming pool to cool off in amidst a beautifully landscaped tropical garden; spacious and serene and the perfect setting for an intense yoga immersion. At Tri Lanka you can expect stunning panoramic views over Koggala Lake and you will have the option to get a treatment at the wellness spa, try out their renowned contemporary menu, or take a swim in the infinity pool. Your instructor practices a style of yoga that she has successfully developed herself in an endeavor to give practitioners the skill to spontaneously construct dynamic sequences ideally suited to an individual’s present physical, mental and emotional requirements. The session is taught in a dynamic, flowing form that integrates the holistic approach of the ancient healing science of Ayurveda, as well as the modern insights of quantum physics, and leads to intelligent self-practice.

About the Host

Your instructor has been practicing yoga since she was a child. She is one of the most experienced, recognized and accomplished contemporary yoga practitioners in the region. As an apprentice, she studied with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, and B.K.S. Iyengar in Pune. In May 2005 she took the Jivamukti 200-hour Yoga Alliance teacher training, and in July 2009 she completed the 500-hour certificate with Tripsichore. Her powerful relationship with yoga and a strong interest in Eastern philosophy is the result of her upbringing in India and Japan, which subsequently led her to complete an MA in Religious Studies at SOAS, University of London. In January 2009 her first book ‘The Holistic Approach to Creating Your Ideal Practice’ was published, complemented by the further release of CD’s and DVD’s. Your instructor runs Yoga Alliance certified Teacher Training courses in the UK, India and Sri Lanka. She has now settled in Galle with her family.

Managing Expectations

It is important to remember that, whilst they are experts in their field, the people who run or host our experiences are not necessarily used to working in the tourism industry and may not offer the level of service you would find at a five-star hotel. For example, instead of a formal lecture, you may get a relaxed conversation where open discussion is encouraged. All of our hosts are, however, extremely engaging, knowledgeable and passionate about educating visitors about their chosen subject and we have worked with them to ensure that they deliver worthwhile, fulfilling experiences. We welcome feedback, so please let us know what you thought and if you think any improvements could be made to the experiences we offer.
