Sri Lankan Cooking Class

Back Back

An authentic yet simple Sri Lankan meal usually consists of generous servings of steamed rice, warm scoops of different types of curries and crisp pappadam, with a traditional dessert rounding it all off. Fresh and nutritious, these dishes are a must try when in the tropical isle. But, the best way to explore the flavours of the island is by cooking up your own Sri Lankan meal with your host.

Experience Overview

Arrive at the place of your host situated in a local neighbourhood in Colombo and refresh yourself with a sip of cooling king coconut. With the guidance of your host, prepare your own Sri Lankan meal by trying your hands at tempering, frying, boiling, marinating and chopping the ingredients. Your host will also explain the uses of various ingredients and different cooking techniques. Once you have finished cooking, sit down and relish the Sri Lankan meal you have prepared. At the end, you will also get recipe leaflet to take home.

Managing Expectations

It is important to remember that, whilst they are experts in their field, the people who run or host our experiences are not necessarily used to working in the tourism industry and may not offer the level of service you would find at a five-star hotel. For example, instead of a formal lecture, you may get a relaxed conversation where open discussion is encouraged. All of our hosts are, however, extremely engaging, knowledgeable and passionate about educating visitors about their chosen subject and we have worked with them to ensure that they deliver worthwhile, fulfilling experiences. We welcome feedback, so please let us know what you thought and if you think any improvements could be made to the experiences we offer.
