Southern Beach Trail

Back Back

Trip Overview

Sri Lanka’s spectacular turquoise-blue beaches on the South Coast have drawn crowds from far and wide for decades. No trip to the island is complete without a stay by the beach, soaking up the sun, listening to the sound of waves in the background as you unwind with a book. This nine-day trip gives you the opportunity to experience the country’s best southern beach spots and truly understand why those who visit Sri Lanka always return. Start your journey in Colombo, soaking up the history and culture of this metropolitan capital before traveling to Dickwella on the South Coast where stunning beaches await you. During your stay in the area, you have the option of visiting Mulkirigala Cave Temple or the Rekawa Turtle Hatchery. From there travel Deep South, home to the Yala National Park, where you can spend a few days exploring the abundant wildlife in the area. Catch a glimpse of Sri Lanka’s elusive leopard or majestic elephant during these game drives. Then drive to the 17th century Galle Fort, where you will spend the remaining days exploring one of the last living forts in the world.

Having been home to five generations of a family hailing from Jaffna, this refurbished colonial villa evokes feelings of old world charm mixed with modern comforts.

Named after the town of Manipay – a wealthy area in Jaffna – this eight-bedroom boutique hotel whose original structure is over a hundred years ago, offers large expanses of greenery with a pool tucked away in the centre. Restaurants, cafes, shopping malls and historical sites of Colombo are not too far away and ensures there’s much to do while here.

Tangalle

Nestled within a secluded crescent-shaped bay, Amanwella is the ultimate beach hotel. Inspired by the architectural designs of Geoffrey Bawa, the resort easily blends in with the surrounding landscape.

Sun loungers laze under the swaying palms just a whisper from the waves. Read, relax, run or take a stroll to the rocky headlands at either end of the bay. Swimming is safe in-season at the southern end of the bay, although the best place for a dip is the serene infinity- edged swimming pool. Keep an eye out for the blowhole that sporadically sprouts water in the far-away distance.

The 30 suites are split into two categories and are located on the hillside, connected by little pathways that lead down to the sandy beach.
