Jeep safari to Kumana

Back Back

Spanning over 35, 655 hectares, Kumana is well known for its wildlife and more so for its migratory and indigenous birdlife. The park is also home to the elephant, leopard, sloth bear, spotted deer and many more fauna. Kumana provides its visitors with an authentic and thrilling wildlife experience devoid of any artificiality.

Experience Overview

In the morning or afternoon, your chauffer will drop you off at the meeting point by either 6AM or 3PM. The meeting point will be the entrance gate of Kumana National Park. You will meet your tracker and driver who will take you on a 2.5 to 3-hour game drive into the national park. The abundant wildlife at Kumana National Park and its extensive flora are supplied water by the Kumbukkan Oya, which borders the park’s western region and 200 hectares of mangrove swamp called “Kumana Villu”. The Villu provide the ideal feeding and resting habitat to the migratory birds. While on safari, watch out for the elephants, spotted, and sambhur deer who are quite active around watering holes like the Kumana Villu swamp, and also in pockets of lush foliage.

Managing Expectations

It is important to remember that, whilst they are experts in their field, the people who run or host our experiences are not necessarily used to working in the tourism industry and may not offer the level of service you would find at a five-star hotel. For example, instead of a formal lecture, you may get a relaxed conversation where open discussion is encouraged. All of our hosts are, however, extremely engaging, knowledgeable and passionate about educating visitors about their chosen subject and we have worked with them to ensure that they deliver worthwhile, fulfilling experiences. We welcome feedback, so please let us know what you thought and if you think any improvements could be made to the experiences we offer.
