For many years, the little island of Sri Lanka could only be reached by boat. It’s tropical inlets, islets and sandy shores were the first glimpses of the island that could be seen. These iconic images of the picturesque coast of Sri Lanka were enough to make visitors enthusiastically claim the island to be a paradise. Out on the Indian Ocean, however, there is more to admire than the skyline of palm trees and sand. Mysterious giants move through these waters: blue whales, sperm whales, orcas and dolphins use Sri Lanka as a passage between continents, making this a busy intersection for marine life. These whales surface during the early hours of the morning. Towards the middle of the day the sea is calm and the hot sun makes it impossible to resist the allure of a dip in the ocean or snorkeling along the coral reefs. In the evening stars light the night’s sky with an incandescent display of constellations. Spend a full day and sleep overnight on a luxury catamaran for a truly unique and unforgettable whale watching experience.
Experience Overview
Climb on board Jade, a brand new Catamaran complete with four overnight cabins that can accommodate up to eight guests. After a quick safety briefing you will sail out to Weligama Bay where you can try out snorkeling or take a swim in the warm Indian Ocean whilst the crew prepares dinner for you. Dinner is a communal affair with a full 3 course meal served at a table on the back deck. Spend the evening star gazing, drinking beers on the top deck, or just enjoying the calm of the ocean. The next morning a hearty breakfast complete with a selection of teas (or the option of coffee) will be served at around 6am. We recommend taking a dip into the sea before breakfast for the ultimate waking up experience – the water is warmer than you think in the morning. After breakfast the boat will head towards the deeper water in search of whales. You will sail out for around 3 hours until you reach the whale watching area. The top and main decks are the perfect places from which to watch the display of whales surfacing briefly before disappearing back down into the deep. After whale watching, head back to Weligama Bay for another chance to snorkel, swim and then enjoy a three course lunch before you head back.

What to wear or bring along:
Cool, light clothing, a cap, sunscreen, your camera, sea sickness tablets to be taken 1.5 hours ahead of time, and a jumper as it can get a little windy on the boat at night.
Important to know:
Depending on the weather, the ride can be a little bumpy. Take anti-sickness tablets ahead of time. For protocol reasons you are compelled to wear a life jacket as you leave the harbour.
