Located north of Matale, Jim’s Farm is surrounded by a 50-acre estate where coconut palms, tropical fruit trees, cocoa and a variety of spices such as black pepper, cinnamon and clove flourish. Chickens lay fresh eggs for breakfast, there’s a kitchen garden and the farm’s cows and goats provide milk for the hotel as well as for the local market. Kevin, the owner, named the farm in tribute to his late father Jim, a British farmer whose dedication inspired him to build this sustainable eco-farm in Sri Lanka. As a setting for a hotel, it is peaceful, picturesque and private.
A large swimming pool and pavilion are found outside this ‘Hilltop Villa’, which comes with its own open plan living and dining space, plus a kitchen, making it well-suited for families and groups.
Accommodation is offered in 14 rooms set in three villas: Hilltop villa, Spice garden villa and Mango villa. Jim’s Farm villas may be booked independently, or by the room.

Cuisine
The hotel’s Gordon Ramsay-trained chef serves up delicious Western and Asian cuisine prepared using fresh produce straight from the garden. Dishes are carefully selected by the chef according to what’s in season to provide guests the best. The lunch menu features a selection of Asian dishes such as Sri Lankan rice and curry, mixed fried rice and chicken buriyani alongside sandwiches and pasta. Dinner is generally western and always a four-course meal. The villa encourages communal dining and sets up a table in the upstairs balcony of the Spice Villa.
Just for the kids
The 50-acre estate is a paradise for kids who have enough freedom to explore. Staff will arrange a farm animal treasure hunt to keep children occupied, and the chef will happily concoct a menu of kid-friendly meals.
