Though situated just a few kilometers from the airport, The Wallawwa feels nothing like a transit hotel. Sitting in acres of beautifully mature gardens, this charming boutique hotel is a sanctuary of serenity and style where the old merges beautifully with the new. Built over 200 years ago in the traditional “Dutch warehouse’ colonial design, The Wallawwa is the most ancient manor house in the entire province and was an ancestral home for many years.
With its completely secluded location, The Wallawwa is a luxurious private hideaway whose 17 boutique bedrooms, exquisite food and wonderfully oversized Z Spa are the perfect ingredients for a relaxing and memorable stay. The hotel’s signature swimming pool sits in the garden a short distance from the main house, while a yoga garden is peacefully located beside the spa.

Cuisine
The Wallawwa boasts excellent home-cooked cuisine that combines the finest Sri Lankan and South Asian cookery with the best of the West. Seasonal a la carte menus are on offer daily, from breakfast to dinner. They have their own organic garden, which grows much of their fresh produce and herbs. Jet-lagged guests may delight in the in-room dining option or at tables that are laid out on the spacious front veranda. Space is a luxury, and tables can also be set up in the garden. The cocktail menu features a range of scintillating concoctions and traditional drinks. Tea from the hills is also available. Choose to enjoy it beside the pool, from the open-air lounge or inside one of the gorgeously cozy canopied garden chairs.
Sustainability
The Wallawwa is a restored colonial-era manor house, the property which sparked Teardrop Hotels’ passion for giving old disused buildings a new lease of life. In addition, The Wallawwa’s ever-popular restaurant, The Verandah, uses produce grown from their extensive kitchen garden wherever possible, and much has been done to preserve and nuture the plants in the property’s 200-year-old tropical gardens.
Just for the kids
A very family friendly hotel with interconnecting rooms. There is a special kid’s menu, while the garden and pool are popular with children.
