Kotmale is a dream for those seeking complete escape from the stress of day-to-day life and those who like to roam outdoors. There are many opportunities for travelers seeking to explore this beautiful terrain: visitors can wander through farmland and escape into the sylvan setting in search of rare botanical species, small mammals and a variety of birds, or go cycling which allows you to explore this region more extensively – there are waterfalls to see, tea factories to observe and a number of Buddhist temples to visit. The grandest of these temples is the Kotmale Maha Seya. Overlooking the dam, it was built to compensate for the eight Buddhist temples flooded to make way for the dam, and in tribute to those who had sacrificed their homes and land.
