Bougainvillea Retreat, a sophisticated abode set up in 2002, is located just 45 minutes from Kandy, near the scenic Victoria Golf Club. The retreat feels contemporary and exhibits a design that seems more in tune with Tuscany than Sri Lanka’s hill country thanks to its delicate iron balustrades, infinity pool and stone-embossed walls. Indoor and outdoor areas flow smoothly into one another and share the jaw-dropping panoramas of the Victoria Reservoir, the palm-fringed mountains and the lush neighboring golf course.
The hotel is designed for complete relaxation including features such as a freeform infinity swimming pool, a mini-cinema with over 1,000 DVDs, a well-thumbed library, and a spa with Jacuzzi and steam bath. Bougainvillea also hosts several yoga retreats throughout the year.
The nine rooms at Bougainvillea are located in the main house and the garden.

Main House Rooms
The main house has three bedrooms and a spacious master suite. Of the three rooms, one offers views of the garden and the remaining two open out to a balcony with views of the reservoir and mountains. Each bedroom features a split king-sized bed, a private veranda, built-in cupboards and an ensuite bathroom. All bedrooms are air-conditioned.

Cuisine
There is an experienced chef who prepares healthy breakfasts, tasty snacks and innovative lunch and dinner menus featuring Sri Lankan cuisine. Inspired by the famed Sri Lankan Chef Koluu, nouveau Sri Lankan cuisine is on the menu here. Sri Lankan rice and curry is readily available and the chef’s creamy curries uses the freshest local produce in season at the time. Bread, cakes and ice creams are all made in-house and guests have the option of having free-range eggs for breakfast every morning. Dinner is typically three courses and a small snack menu is available for lunch. All meals should be ordered in the morning, and are priced per person per meal. There is no alcohol served, but guests are welcome to bring their own; no corkage is charged. Vegetarians and other special diets can all be accommodated here.
Just for the kids
Not recommended for toddlers. Parents need to supervise children at all times since there are a few steep drops around the villa.
