Before it became a four-star hotel, Heritance Tea Factory was, as the name suggests, a working tea factory. There is a strong sense of being frozen in time when you stay here, with many aspects of the hotel linking directly to the British colonial period (19th century): the hotel still has a miniature factory, whilst the fine-dining restaurant – a restored railway carriage – pays homage to the age of steam train travel. Heritance Tea Factory is perched on the edge of a steep slope in Kandapola, a quiet village near Nuwara Eliya, the highest town in Sri Lanka, and offers spectacular views across the valley. Its picturesque and remote setting is perfect for those seeking total escape from urban life. There are 47 bedrooms in total, furnished with double beds and heating facilities with ensuite bathrooms with bathtubs and h/w showers. The hotel also boasts two bars; a games room with pool / snooker tables; a mini-golf course; gym and sauna; business centre and conference facilities and a library. An on-call doctor is available and baby-sitting services can be provided. Stay in this atmospheric property and gain a real insight into Sri Lanka’s iconic tea industry: pluck your own tea on the nearby Heathersett Estate; visit the small factory; discover the history of the hotel, and explore the surrounding tea-fields on foot.
