BackPopularly known as ‘Little England’, Nuwara Eliya was the main town in the hill country where the British planters made their home away from home. Sri Lanka’s highest point, the town has a cooler climate than much of the rest of the island, similar to an English summer, and there are many old buildings, a racecourse and a golf course which stand in testimony to the British colonial period. Endless fields of tea cover the rolling hills surrounding the town, speckled with women dressed in brightly-coloured saris plucking the tea leaves.

Hill Rise is a typical tea planter’s bungalow. It has to four double rooms, each fitted with en-suite bathrooms, and can house eight guests at a time. Expect elegant décor and modern amenities. Children of all ages are welcome.
First built in 1884 by a British planter, this is one of the country’s oldest properties. Today it houses four expansive and elegantly-furnished rooms. It also has a separate Family Suite ideal for those travelling with younger children.
Stonyhurst’s ambience is as warm as its service. It has six bedrooms, and is able to accommodate ten adults and four children.
