This stylish four-bedroom beach villa has a striking modern design and provides the ultimate in luxurious living. Designed for the beach-lover in mind, the villa has large, louvered windows which let in plenty of sunlight and capture varying frames of the panoramic ocean beyond, and a small araliya-shaded garden – complemented by an exquisite infinity pool made using Balinese tiles – leads directly onto the soft sands of Dalawela Beach which, thanks to its coral lagoon, offers safe swimming all year round. ‘Ambalama’ means resting place, and it could not be more apt. Stepping stones placed across a shallow pool mark the entrance way to the house, which lead into an inviting open-plan living and dining area with a lofty ceiling and cool terrazzo floor, furnished with vivid sofas and eye-catching artwork which stand out against the natural color scheme that runs throughout the property. Imposing double teak doors take you from here into the small enclosed garden, where more seats and sunbeds make this an idyllic setting to sip a sundowner in full view of the sea. The villa has a staff of six: an English-speaking manager-cum-chef, three housekeeping staff, a gardener and a night-watchman.

Cuisine
The resident chef is an excellent cook who can prepare a range of Western and Sri Lankan dishes using fresh local produce bought daily from the markets of Galle. Fresh seafood is plentiful here – lobster and crab are specialities – and the chef’s prawn curry has been particularly praised by previous guests. Guests are encouraged to discuss their meal plans with the chef daily and can choose to eat inside at the formal dining table or outside at tables in the garden at any time of their choosing. Barbeques may also be organized with advanced notice. Local beachside restaurants in Dalawela offer alternative locations for dinner and drinks.
Just for the kids
A very family-friendly villa. Good day trips to do from here include taking a boat from Unawatuna and snorkelling in the reefs close to Rumassala, or visiting Kanneliya Rainforest with a naturalist, learning about the plants, animals and the importance of this ecosystem.
