Perched high on a hillside between Mirissa and Matara, Pointe Sud is a five-bedroom property set within two acres of tropical gardens made up of neatly manicured lawns, blooming borders, untamed jungle and a staircase which leads to the deserted beach below. The interior of the house is every bit as captivating as its exterior, although we don’t doubt that you will spend most of the time outdoors, enjoying the picture-perfect, 180-degree views of the coastline from the house, lawn, strategically-placed pavilions and the cliff-edge infinity swimming pool. Pointe Sud was originally a gift from a devoted husband to his wife, and is a magnificent architectural enigma: although Palladian in essence, this pastel-pink building houses 100-year-old teak floorboards, antique timber frames and terracotta tiles, the result being a blissful combination of styles from throughout Sri Lanka’s history. The house is fully staffed, and includes a television room and a fully-equipped kitchen.

Cuisine
Sri Lankan dishes and seafood spreads are the forte of Pointe Sud’s cook, using the freshest local produce, and BBQs can also be arranged on request. All food is sold at cost price (with a small additional charge for transport). Discuss your preferences for the day with the cook after breakfast. The kitchen is finished in terrazzo and has elegant twin centre islands – why not join the chef there and learn how to make some of his finest traditional dishes? You also have the option to cook your own meals if you prefer. There are many different dining locations at Pointe Sud, both indoors and out. The drawing room has a table for ten, and there is another table on the veranda which offers scenic ocean views. Tables can also be placed on the lawn, beside the pool or in the sunset pavilion. You could also have a picnic on the beach.
Just for the kids
The villa is family-friendly. For older children, there are lots of activities to enjoy including body-boarding, learning to surf on Weligama beach, taking a boat from Unawatuna and snorkeling at the reef just off Rumassala.
